Increased Number of Eastern Europeans Coming to UK to Work
According to recent labour market statistics released by Office for National Statistics, over the last year, there has been a 23 per cent increase in the number of eastern Europeans, such as individuals from Poland, working in UK.
In particular, The number of eastern Europeans working in Britain increased 168,000 by to 895,000 by the end of 2014.
The suggestion is that the rise is a result of the growing economy in the UK – which grew by 2.7% in 2014, together with British pound becoming stronger – thus making wages more attractive.
The number workers from western European (including France and Spain) also increased by 10 per cent to 761,000, over the last year.
Migration from out with the European Union fell throughout 2014. Whilst, the number of migrant workers from American, Australia and New Zealand increased by 15 per cent, 9 per cent and 9 per cent respectfully, overall the number of non-EU migrant workers fell by 29,000 to 1.1 million.
The labour market statistics demonstrate that the number of employed British workers rose by 375,000 in 2014, with the number of non-UK national workers in Britain increasing by 239,000.
In total, UK labour force which stands at 31 million, comprises of 28 million British citizens and 3 million citizens from outwith the UK.
