The UK Private Life route allows a person who has established a sufficiently strong private life in the UK to apply for permission to stay. The route is contained in Appendix Private Life of the Immigration Rules and gives effect to aspects of the right to respect for private life protected by Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights protects the right to respect for family life. In UK immigration law, the main framework for applications by partners and parents is Appendix FM of the Immigration Rules.
A person may be able to enter or remain in the UK on human rights grounds where refusing them permission, requiring them to leave the UK or removing them would unlawfully interfere with rights protected by the European Convention on Human Rights.
If you are unable to return safely to your country because you have a well-founded fear of persecution, you may be entitled to claim asylum and obtain refugee protection in the UK.
A person who has held refugee status or humanitarian protection in the UK for a continuous period of at least five years may be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain under Appendix Settlement Protection of the Immigration Rules.
