As a partnership we’ve been practising immigration law since 2013, but our immigration barristers have been helping foreign nationals and their families to live, work and study in the UK since the late-nineties.
We started out doing things the traditional way. Our clients would visit a solicitor, the solicitor would instruct a barrister and we would provide legal advice, draft legal documents and appear in court.
For years this is how immigration barristers worked, specialists in UK immigration law, but rarely meeting our clients in person. Then we started thinking.
We were often responsible for the outcomes and success of our advice, so what if we could work directly with our clients to prepare their visa applications and present their immigration appeals?
And what if, rather than providing advice and representation as individual barristers, we could deliver the same expertise, but with the level of service associated with a law firm?
In April 2010, the legal profession decided that members of the public could now go directly to a barrister for expert immigration advice. After over 10 years in traditional practice, our founding barrister, Paul Richmond, advised his first ‘direct access’ client that month.
Many more clients followed, but Paul wanted to do more than just provide great legal advice. He saw the law as a means of getting somewhere – not an end in itself. He also believed passionately (and still does) that any client with an immigration issue should receive an outstanding service from their legal representative.
In July 2013, Richmond Chambers LLP became the first barrister-only immigration law firm to be authorised in the UK. Combining the expertise and quality of the Bar with the service delivery of a trusted law firm, we set out to put our clients at the heart of all we do.
In 2014 we won ‘Best Emerging Firm’ at the MPF Awards for Management Excellence and ‘Alternative Business Structure of the Year’ at the Modern Law Awards.
We’ve grown steadily since, to a team of 15 immigration barristers and 2 pupil barristers, supported by 11 legal associates and 4 business professionals, but our original commitment to our clients remains.
We love working with people and businesses from all around the world and we feel privileged when someone trusts us with something as important as their immigration issue.
