Before joining Richmond Chambers, Elana volunteered as a youth leader with Our Second Home, a youth movement for young refugees and migrants in the UK. The movement aims to build a community, teach leadership skills and spark ideas, empowering participants to flourish. Her interest in Immigration Law was furthered after volunteering for the City University and No 5 Human Rights Immigration Project, helping individuals apply for legal aid for Immigration hearings.
In her spare time, Elana volunteers as a research assistant with Evolve – Foundation for International Legal Assistance. The foundation seeks to improve access to, fairness of and capacity within the criminal justice system of Uganda, focussing on the rule of law and use of the death penalty.
