UK in Top Ten of Most Attractive Countries for Skilled Migrants
The UK has been named as one of the most popular countries for attracting skilled workers with the country being ranked seventh based on its ability to attract, develop and retain highly-skilled foreign workers.
The figures come from a collaboration from the Global Talent Competitiveness Index, the Adecco Group, the international business school INSEAD and the Human Capital Leadership Institute. The data showed that the UK retained its place in the ranking finishing seventh, as it did in 2014.
Overall, the UK ranked fourth among countries most likely to attract businesses with foreign ownership and seventh as the country most likely to attract international students. However, although there were some positives to take in the overall placement, the UK still had a number of issues ranking 56th for attracting female graduates and 71st for the gender earnings gap.
The report highlighting the positives regarding the UK and their ability to attract skilled migrants comes following a controversial report from the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) suggested that the British Government took a stricter approach to skilled migration and considered putting further obstacles in place in regards to Tier 2 visas.
The changes proposed by the MAC include a £1000 levy, as mentioned in one of our previous blog posts, which some believe could reduce skilled migration by 20%.
