Applications invited from barristers to join our immigration team

Richmond Chambers LLP invites applications from immigration barristers of all levels of call to join our team. Applications will be considered from barristers looking to join chambers on a full-time, permanent basis and also those seeking a part-time dual practice arrangement.

Who We Are

Richmond Chambers LLP is an award-winning, innovative partnership of specialist immigration barristers. Established in 2013 as the first barrister-only ABS, chambers is at the forefront of the modern legal profession.

We are a small progressive team, whose members share a core commitment to providing high quality immigration law advice and representation directly to members of the public. Practising from a listed building in the heart of Covent Garden, we currently have 12 barrister members and 2 pupils, supported by a team of 4 legal associates and 4 administrative staff. Further recruitment is planned at all levels throughout 2017 and 2018.

We actively promote a professional, friendly and supportive environment in chambers. Our genuinely collegiate approach is combined with regular team meetings and an ad-hoc internal seminar programme that provides a forum for open discussion and shared learning.

Our barristers have access to the latest cloud-based IT systems, which facilitate flexible and remote working, and are supported by a first-class administration and marketing team.

What We Do

We specialise in all aspects of personal and business immigration law, including investment migration for high net worth individuals, family migration, skilled workers, sponsor licensing and compliance, EEA free movement, nationality law and human rights. Our clients include private individuals and corporates, both within the UK and overseas.

We undertake the full range of privately funded immigration work, from preparing initial applications to the Home Office through to administrative reviews, appeals and judicial reviews before the immigration tribunals and higher courts. The majority of our work is undertaken on a ‘direct access’ basis, but there are also opportunities to work for solicitors.

Some members practice across a broad area, while others have developed niche specialisms. All members of the team have significant control over their casework and are able to access assistance from legal associates and pupils as and when required.

Members regularly contribute to legal journals and practitioner resources, participate in ILPA working group meetings and attend consultations with the Home Office.

What We Offer

Due to our unique structure, we are able to combine the distinctive tradition and unique selling points of the Bar with a modern dynamic business environment. Compensation packages can be tailored to individual needs and circumstances, but our full-time barristers typically enjoy the following:

  1. A guaranteed annual salary paid monthly;
  2. Additional performance related bonus linked to fee receipts;
  3. No chambers rent or clerks fees;
  4. Flexible working arrangements;
  5. 25 days paid holiday (plus bank holidays);
  6. Unlimited unpaid leave;
  7. Annual interest free travel loan;
  8. Practising certificate fee fully paid;
  9. Subscriptions to online practitioner resources fully paid;
  10. Contribution to ongoing CPD training costs;
  11. Membership of a pension scheme (from June 2017);
  12. Access to group life and health insurance schemes (likely to be offered from June 2017);
  13. Access to benefits in kind schemes (likely to be offered from June 2017);

Dual Practice

We also offer part time dual practice positions. Dual practice barristers remain self-employed members of their existing chambers, but they also register as employed barristers for the purpose of accepting instructions through Richmond Chambers LLP.

Once registered, dual practice barristers continue to practice at, and receive instructions from, their existing chambers, in the traditional way, but they also have the opportunity to advise and represent private clients of Richmond Chambers LLP.

Dual practice barristers can fit this additional source of work in around their existing practice. Paralegal assistance from our legal associates can also be arranged, should this be required. There are no clerks fees or chambers rent. Remuneration is based on a fixed percentage of fees received.

Our Selection Criteria

The successful applicants will be able to demonstrate academic excellence and be practising, or have practised, in the field of immigration law. Previous experience of direct/public access work is not required, but applicants will need to demonstrate an ability, aptitude and enthusiasm for working directly with members of the public.

The Selection Process

Applications from practising members of the Bar may be made by way of letter and CV addressed to our HR manager, Nancy Holland, at nancy.holland@richmondchambers.com. All applications will be treated in the strictest of confidence and will only be read by Nancy Holland and the Managing Partners.
