EU Referendum - A Message to Our Clients

As you will be aware, the outcome of the EU Referendum held in the UK on 23 June 2016 is that the United Kingdom has voted to leave the EU.

Whilst this will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the UK's relationship with the EU over the coming weeks, months and years, the UK currently remains an EU Member State and will remain an EU Member State until such membership is formally brought to an end.

Impact on your Immigration Matters

In the circumstances, the outcome of the EU referendum currently has no direct effect on your immigration matters as there has been no change in the relevant legal provisions – whether as a matter of UK law or EU law.

Changes in relevant law can be expected to follow as a result of the referendum. The nature, extent, timing and implementation of those changes will depend on negotiations to follow, both within the UK and between the UK and the EU.

It is therefore too early to state how changes in UK and / or EU law may affect your immigration matters with the UK in the future. Ultimately, this will depend on the content of any relevant changes and how those changes apply to the facts of your particular case at that time.
